The first is a "PR (Public Relations)" committee.  The purpose of this committee is to plan events and activities with the intent to educated the public about the club.
The second  is the "Find A New Field" committee.  Recently, the Havana club had suddenly lost their field.  This unfortunate event was a "wake up call" so to speak of how easy it can really happen.  Our club's current field is leased from the county.  The 2 year lease is very misleading.  While the lease makes provisions for a two year term, there is a clause that states that they can cancel the lease at any point with a 30 day notice.
Richard (President) adjourned the meeting at 8:52pm

May 2nd, 2002

Richard (President) called the meeting to Order at 7:38 pm.

Announcements:
   Treasurer's  Report submitted and approved.

Old Business:
   The "Find-a-field" committee

spokesperson (Sebastian Verrier) announced that the club is working with a realtor, and at the moment has three different properties in consideration.  They are all located in Jefferson County. The closest is approximately 5 miles east of the current field.
Ron Whichel expressed some concerns about looking for a new field.  It was reminded to the membership, that though we currently hold a 2 year lease with the county for our current field, that we can lose it with a 30 day notice as stated in a clause in the lease.  The committee is currently "looking" just as a back up plan.

New Business:
Gordie Meade gave a short recap of the events that had taken place at the Heli Clinic.  The crowd was smaller than expected at 19 due to some last minute cancellations.  The pilots/Instructors that did make it had great weather and look forward to next year's event.  A special thanks to John Clark, James Cowart, and Paul Lawerence for helping with concessions.
Martin Brungard was not present to comment on the soaring contest.
Theo Titus gave a short presentation in an effort to spark some interest in IMAA. (International Miniature Aircraft Association.)
Richard (President) adjourned the meeting at 8:08pm

Parting Thoughts
Jeff Owens

As things have worked out, I haven't been able to make it to the field lately. A number of things happened this spring which made me refocus certain priorities. I guess it was mostly a realization that one shouldn't always put off things until tomorrow. Sometimes you have to act today. At any rate, I've been flying my Cessna 182  more and my models less. I flew to Kermit Weeks' museum, Fantasy of Flight, near Lakeland in March, to  the Sun 'n Fun EAA Fly-in, the Cedar Key Arts Festival, and Fermilab (near Chicago) at the end of April, the Quincy EAA Fly-in in May, and I'll be flying to Madison, Wisconsin next Thursday for another physics meeting. So, it looks like I'll miss this month's SRCC meeting. Next, Linda and I are planning to fly to the Bahamas at the end of June. Then the plane goes in for its annual. So, my aviation interest is as strong as ever. It is just redirected for now. On top of that, my physics research has picked up quite a bit and I am working on four different projects at the moment. So, never a dull moment!

'Til next time…
